What We Do

NoPC’s goal is to improve the access and quality of education available in the developing world. We believe that ICT has a critical part to play in making this happen.

The Story so far – ICT, Education & Tanzania

In 2002, the Tanzanian government introduced free and compulsory primary education. Since then, dramatic changes have taken place to increase student participation and introduce ICT in to the classroom.

Increased student enrolment

The percentage of children in school has increased from 60% in 2000 to 97% in 2005.

Increased number of schools

The number of secondary schools has grown from 1,202 in 2005 to 3,185 in 2009.

More teachers trained in ICT

A national programme to introduce ICT in the country’s 32 teacher education colleges has trained 16,700 student teachers in ICT skills since its launch in 2005.

More teaching and learning materials

Radio programmes for primary and secondary education are now broadcast through the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, produced by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Star TV also broadcasts programmes in English on various subjects for secondary school students.
